1 Tim 3:15 but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
2Ti 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Tim 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
In Scripture, the church is described in many ways. A major item revealed is the matter of the truth. For example; The pillar and ground, or base or seat of the truth. The upholding and support for the truth is a major part of the function of the church.
Therefore we must take very seriously the call to uphold the truth, as presented in the whole council of God.
If examining the teaching of the church; would we find her upholding, or deviating from the truth? If we
discover deviation; we must rise to correct our course with all diligence and humility!
Man made doctrinal statements must be examined in the light of (All Scripture.) Eliminating proof texts and any thing which does not represent (All Scripture). Will we seek to rightly divide the word of truth? If so, there is much work to do!
The centrality of the word of God must be raised to its proper place once again, not in dead letters, but as the living word of God; Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
We therefore must end the practice of; 2Pe 3:16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
A key place for us as the church to repent, is regarding our reverence and adherence to the living word of God; not in dead letters, but as the very breath of God!
